Auto / Recreational Insurance

Auto Insurance, Car Insurance or Recreational Insurance

Protecting your assets

Let’s face it when you get behind the wheel of a car you need to feel safe and protected. An auto insurance policy will help cover repairs to your vehicle, as well as medical costs that result from an accident.  It’s a requirement of the law, and therefore you have it. You cannot legally drive without it. And let’s face it when you get behind the wheel of a car you need to feel safe and protected. An auto insurance policy will help cover repairs to your vehicle, as well as medical costs that result from an accident.

Understanding Auto Insurance
Insurance policies can be daunting, and let’s face it they’re not the easiest to understand. So, here’s a quick overview on the main components of car insurance.

Bodily injury liability

  • Should you injure or kill someone while driving, this protects you! It even provides for legal defense, if the other party files a lawsuit against you.
  • Bodily injury liability covers injury to people, not your car. So, it’s not a bad idea to have the same level of coverage for all your vehicles.

Medical payments, no-fault or persons injury protection coverage

  • Medical expenses of the injured driver and passengers in your car are covered through this.

Uninsured motorists coverage

  • There are lawbreakers out there that are uninsured drivers. This type of coverage pays for your injuries caused by an uninsured driver or, in some states, a hit-and-run. Some states also offer uninsured motorist coverage for damage to your vehicle.

Comprehensive physical damage

  • It covers damage if your car is stolen; or damaged by flood, fire or animals. Basically, it pays for losses that come about from incidents other than collision.

Collision coverage

  • Pays for damages to your car when you hit, or are hit by, another vehicle.
  • Coverage is normally limited to the cash value of your car. So for older cars, it’s often advised that you drop this coverage.

Property damage liability

  • Protects you if your car damages someone else’s property. It also provides for legal defense if another party files a lawsuit against you.
